Beijing ‘supports aid for Syria’

China backs international efforts to send humanitarian aid to Syria, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi has said.

He was speaking to the head of the Arab League, Nabil Elaraby, over the phone.

Mr Yang said China was willing to work with the Arab nations for ''a peaceful and proper settlement of the Syria issue'', the official Xinhua news agency reported.

The comments came after France said the UN Security Council would work on a draft resolution on aid for Syria.

Efforts to free TV crew in Libya

Efforts are continuing to obtain the release of two British journalists who are being held by a group of former rebel fighters in Libya.

Reporter Nicholas Davies and cameraman Gareth Montgomery-Johnson were detained by members of the Misrata Brigade on Tuesday and are being held in Tripoli.

It is not clear if Mr Montgomery-Johnson, a cameraman from Carmarthen, and his colleague will face charges.

Human Rights Watch says it has been denied access to the journalists.

Japan JX sees turnaround at paraxylene plant May-Jun

TOKYO Feb 28 (Reuters) - Japan's top refiner JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corp plans to shut its paraxylene-manufacturing Chita plant in western Japan in May-June for scheduled maintenance, an industry source said.

The plant has the capacity to produce 400,000 tonnes per year of paraxylene, the raw material for polyester.
